Hi, I'm PR Isfeld!
I’ve been writing fiction for many years, partly as a creative refuge from the bureaucracy associated with my foreign service career. Captives, my psychological mystery, was shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada Award for Best Unpublished Manuscript in 2022, and an earlier version was longlisted for the Bath Novel Award in 2017.
My short stories have also been shortlisted for a few awards, including the Surrey International Writers Conference Storyteller’s Award, Capital Crime Writers Audrey Jessup Award, and the Writers Union of Canada Short Prose Competition for Emerging Writers. I hold a diploma in Creative Non-Fiction from Humber College.
As a writer, I’m fascinated by human (mis)behaviour and the permutations of power, and the many ways these things intersect and overlap. Although I do draw general inspiration from the people and experiences I’ve encountered in places such as Kandahar, any resemblance to any real persons or actual events in my fiction is purely coincidental.
Finally, any views expressed on this website or in my work are my own—or those of my fictional characters—and do not reflect those of either the Government of Canada or the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO), where I currently serve as President.*
